Cross Country Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

USTFCCCA Release

NEW ORLEANS, La. - For the sixth straight season the Cleveland State cross country team has been honored for their academic achievements, earning USTFCCCA All-Academic Team accolades. The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association made the announcement early last week.

"I am always so proud of what my team accomplishes in the classroom, and how focused they are on improving their academics day-to-day," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "It takes a lot of effort to balance academics, practices, and meets, and it really makes me proud that they can all put in the extra work to be great student-athletes and get a great education throughout their time at Cleveland State."

This season the Vikings notched a cumulative team GPA of 3.34 and were one of eight Horizon League teams to earn All-Academic Team honors. Cleveland State has been awarded All-Academic Team status for six straight years now (2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009 & 2008) – joining Detroit as the only league schools to accomplish that feat.

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
