BOARDMAN, Ohio – The Cleveland State cross country team competed at the 2013 Horizon League Championship Saturday afternoon, placing sixth overall. The Vikings bettered their finish from a year ago, while Youngstown State captured the women's title, followed by UIC and Oakland.

"I am extremely proud of how everyone ran today, for such a young group to finish sixth is just outstanding," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "The ground was a bit sloppy today for running, but everyone did very well despite the conditions. Tori had an excellent race for us, and finishing 15th overall is really a testament to how competitive she is after pushing through some injuries this season. This group has improved every time out on the course, and today was the same and I am so proud of the results that everyone had today."

The Vikings were paced by Tori Holt and Erin Pavick, who each recorded top-25 finishes at the league meet. Holt, who placed 15th overall with a time of 19:20, notched CSU's best individual finish at the league championship over the past 12 seasons. Pavick also posted a sub 20-minute 5K time, crossing the finish line in a time of 19:35 to place 23rd.

Holt's time of 19:20 marked the 19th fastest 5K under Jaketic, while Pavick's time of 19:35 ranks 34th on CSU's top performances list.

Cleveland State's next three finishers all crossed the line with top-50 times, led by Ashlyn Woods who crossed the line in 20:00 flat to finish 40th overall. Alanna Shamrock and Katie Webb then finished right behind each other, Shamrock placing 48th (20:19) and Webb placing 49th (20:21).

Also competing for the Vikings at the 2013 Horizon League Championship were Sarah Mallow and Amelia Holt – Mallow placing 64th overall with a time of 21:08 and Holt placing 67th overall with a mark of 21:10.

The Vikings will now have one more meet for the 2013 season, taking part in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday, Nov. 15.
