Walt Disney World Classic Results
ORLANDO, Fla.- The Cleveland State cross country team competed at the Walt Disney World Classic Saturday morning, finishing 14th as a team out of 27 schools competing.
"Everyone ran really well today despite the weather and course conditions," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "When the race started there was still a cloud cover, but about halfway through that left and it got very hot and it was very humid which we aren't really used to running in. Last night there was also a lot of rain, so the back part of the course was covered in mud, but everyone pushed through and had an enjoyable time."
Tori Holt was CSU's top finisher for the fifth straight race, placing 18th overall in a time of 19:49. The trio of Ashley Lydic, Katie Webb and Maddie Korak recorded top-100 finishes for the Vikings, Lydic in a time of 21:12 (63rd), Webb in 21:15 (68th) and Korak in 21:42 (87th).
Megan O'Keefe and Angela Kirila were the next runners to cross the finish line for CSU, O'Keefe finishing in a time of 22:48 (127th) and Kirila in a time of 23:27 (145th). Amanda Kalain was the seventh Viking to finish, crossing the line in 23:56, whileRachel Niemi finished in a time of 23:58 (160th) and Ashley Berlin finished in 24:42 (174th).
"Tori was our top runner once again, and she continues to be consistent on the course and pushing herself to finish strong. Ashley and Katie also ran well, but their pace was a little slow at the beginning of the race so they had to pick it up in the second half. Overall I am proud of how everyone ran, and now we will enjoy our time in Orlando before getting back to practice," Jaketic said.
The Vikings will continue the 2012 season next weekend, when they participate in the WC Fall Classic on Friday, October 12.
