NEW ORLEANS, La.– For the fifth straight season the Cleveland State cross country team has been honored for their academic achievements, earning USTFCCCA All-Academic Team accolades. The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association made the announcement earlier this week.

"I am very proud of this team and of their accomplishments on the cross country course, but more importantly their accomplishments in the classroom," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "To be named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for the fifth straight year is an honor. As a student-athlete being a student comes first, and everyone on the team has put forth a lot of effort in their studies and they really push each other to do their best when it comes to academics."

This season the Vikings notched a cumulative team GPA of 3.35 and were one of five Horizon League teams to earn All-Academic Team honors. Cleveland State has been awarded All-Academic Team status for five straight years now (2012, 2011, 2010, 2009 & 2008) – joining Detroit as the only league schools to do so.

To qualify as a USTFCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
