MADISON, Wis. - The Cleveland State cross country team concluded the 2012 season Friday afternoon, competing at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. Friday's race marked the first 6K of the season for Cleveland State. Michigan brought home the team title at the regional race, while Michigan State placed second.
"Everyone ran well today, despite some injuries that we had throughout the race," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "It is always tough for us to prepare for this race after the Horizon League Championship, but we gave it our all today and that's all I can ask for. We were running against some of the best teams in the country today and we came out strong and had a good race. Maddie had a great race for us leading the team, and was just shy of her 5K career-best time at the split."
Maddie Korak paced the Vikings in her first collegiate 6K, posting a time of 24:42. Finishing second for CSU was Katie Webb who crossed the line in 25:25, while Ashley Lydic finished in 25:44. Ashley Berlin posted her career-best 6K time today, finishing the race in 26:51. Megan O'Keefe and Amanda Kalain were the final two Vikings to compete Friday, finishing in times of 27:03 and 27:36, respectively.
The regional race concluded the 2012 season for the Vikings, as CSU had nine runners post personal-best times throughout the season. The team's best finish of the year came at the Otterbein Invitational (Sept. 22), when CSU placed fourth. CSU also had a top-five finish at the Titan Invitational (Sept. 8), when the Vikings placed fifth.
