CSU Edges Towson, 3-2; Loses To Northwestern, 3-1

Michele Smith was named to her third consecutive all-tournament team at the Hampton Inn/Wildcat Classic at Northwestern over the weekend. The 6-0 senior tagged 13 kills while hitting .417 in a three-game win over Buffalo and added a pair of service aces along with three block solos and six block assists. Against Towson, she helped CSU to a five-game victory with 16 kills (hitting .455), a service ace and five block assists. In the tournament's championship game against Northwestern, the middle hitter recorded a career-high 20 digs. She also notched 17 kills in 27 attempts with just one error for a .593 efficiency and added three service aces. For the weekend, Smith hit .488 with just five errors in the three matches and continued her bid to become the MCC's career leader in hitting percentage. She entered the season at .287, trailing Loyola's Julie McShane at .295, but has improved that statistic to .301.

In addition to Smith, setter Erinn Kingman also was named to the all-tournament team. The 5-8 senior became CSU's career assist leader on Saturday night at Northwestern with 3,322 set-ups to her credit, passing Stacie Cunningham's mark of 3,320 taken from 1995-98. Kingman currently ranks ninth all-time in the MCC.
