Jamie Bouyer Earns Sports Woman Of The Year Distinction

Jan. 3, 2005

CLEVELAND - Jamie Bouyer has to be running out of room on her mantle at this point. Already named the school's first volleyball All-American (garnering honorable mention accolades from the AVCA), the senior middle hitter recently earned the distinction of being the Cleveland Call & Post's Sports Woman of the Year.

A first team AVCA All-Midwest Region pick and a three-time first team All-Horizon League selection, Bouyer led the league in hitting percentage (.388) and blocks (1.45) for the second consecutive year, ranking 17th in the nation in hitting percentage. In late November, she led the Vikings to their first appearance in the league championship match, hitting .402 with 17 blocks to earn all-tournament honors. The CSU career leader in hitting percentage (.339), kills (1,626) and blocks (588), she is just the second player in league history to record 1,500 kills and 500 blocks.

The Bedford Heights, Ohio native is also a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and the president of CSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Council. She recently took part in a clinic for minority coaches at the AVCA national convention in Long Beach, Calif.

Cleveland State finished the season with a 15-13 overall record and tied for fourth in the league, its highest conference finish ever. The Vikings knocked off top-seeded UW-Milwaukee in the championship semifinals before losing to Loyola in five games in the title match.
