Youngstown, Ohio - Senior Jamie Bouyer knocked down 17 kills with no errors as Cleveland State (14-12) swept Youngstown State (10-21) 30-21, 30-23, 30-28 in the second round of the Horizon League Championship at the Beegly Center. The win propels the Vikings to a semi-final contest against top-seeded UW-Milwaukee tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
Horizon League first-team member Bouyer hit an exceptional .586 on the night, as Cleveland State out hit the Penguins (49-13-129 to 46-28-148) and upended them on blocks (11 to 2). The Vikings remained in control throughout the night, trailing for only three points during the entire match.
"We played really well as a team -- our passing, defense and ball-control were excellent tonight," CSU head coach Chuck Voss noted. "We did a good job of containing Youngstown State on its homecourt and we'll have to do the same things to be successful against [top-seeded] Milwaukee tomorrow."
Senior Kelly Crain recorded her team-best seventh double-double, tallying 10 digs and 35 assists and eight kills, while junior Emily Clark added nine kills.
Jessica Fraely paced the Penguins with 12 kills while Melanie Pounders added 10.
