CHICAGO - Despite middle hitter Jamie Bouyer's (Bedford Heights, Ohio/Chanel) hot hand, Cleveland State was tripped up by host Illinois-Chicago Saturday afternoon 30-26, 30-10, 30-27 at the Flames Athletic Center.
Bouyer recorded just one error while knocking down 12 kill in 16 attempts for a stellar .688 hitting percentage. However, the sophomore was the only Viking to reach double digits.
Serve and serve-receive hurt the Vikings as they committed eight service errors and 12 reception errors which translated into 20 Flames' points.
The Vikes fell to 17-11 overall and lost ground in the Horizon League, falling back to sixth at 4-7. UIC improved to 18-12 and 5-6 to move into sole possession of fifth.
CSU will conclude the regular season next weekend at home, playing host to Butler on Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. and Wright State on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. Seniors Lori Betchker (Amherst, Ohio/Steele), Michelle Iafigliola (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) and Kristine Dabbelt (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia) will be honored prior to Saturday's match.
