Simply put, Amy Benz is not only one of the top middles in the
Horizon League, but one of the best players. A two-time first team
All-Horizon League selection and one of the most accurate hitters
in the league, she has the ability to terminate points at the net,
while also providing the Vikings with a defensive presence because
of her blocking ability. Now a senior, Benz will be asked to carry
an even bigger role in the offensive scheme and lead CSU's
frontline defense.
2009 Season (JUNIOR)
Was one of two players to start all 34 matches and one of
three to appear in all 122 sets.
Ranked third in the Horizon League in hitting percentage
(.311) and ninth in blocks (0.96). Had multiple blocks in 31-of-34
matches.
Selected to Horizon League All-Tournament team after
averaging 13.5 kills and 3.0 blocks in two matches.
Had 15 kills and four blocks in league semifinal win over
UIC (11/21), hitting .444 (15-3-27).
Hit .542 (14-1-24) against Green Bay (10/11).
Recorded 13 kills while hitting .391 vs. UIC (10/2).
Finished with 15 kills and seven blocks versus Bowling
Green (9/18).
Notched 13 kills and hit .579 (13-2-19) with four blocks
versus Wright State.
Tallied a season-most 16 kills in win over Syracuse
(9/5).
Had 14 kills and zero errors in 19 attempts (.737) at
Robert Morris (9/1).
2008 Season (SOPHOMORE)
Selected to the All-Horizon League first team for the
second straight season after becoming the lone player to start all
30 matches.
Led the Horizon League in hitting percentage (.303),
while finishing third in the league and 95th in the country in
blocks (1.06).
Posted 125 blocks, tied for the seventh most in a season
at CSU, while her 112 block assists were the sixth most in a single
season.
Voted to Horizon League All-Tournament team after
averaging 12.3 kills and 6.3 blocks per match, while hitting .402
(37-4-82).
Hit .667 (17-1-24) in victory at Kent State (11/29) in
season finale.
Recorded 12 kills in league title match vs. Milwaukee
(11/23).
Had 16 kills and no errors in 28 attempts (.571) with 10
blocks in league semifinal win over Valparaiso (11/22) for lone
double-double of season.
Named Horizon League Player of the Week on Nov. 17 after
tallying nine kills and eight blocks in win at Youngstown State
(11/14).
Hit .412 with 15 kills and nine blocks at Wright State
(9/26).
2007 Season (FRESHMAN)
Was one of 15 Division I freshmen to be named to
Collegiate Volleyball Update's Rising Stars team.
Voted to All-Horizon League first team and earned Horizon
League Newcomer of the Year honors.
MVP of the league tournament, averaging 9.7 kills and 4.3
blocks per game, hitting .366 (39-9-82).
Led the league and ranked 81st in the nation in hitting
percentage (.334), ranking second in the league and 21st in the
country in blocks (1.50).
Tallied 184 total blocks and 159 block assists, the
second most in CSU history in both categories.
Tallied first career double-double with 12 kills and 11
blocks at Wright State (9/14).
Recorded another double-double with 11 kills and 11
blocks at Valparaiso (10/2).
Had career high 20 kills at Milwaukee (10/19).
Amassed career-best 14 blocks vs. Valparaiso (11/3).
High School
Two-time All-Ohio selection, including a first team pick
as a senior when she led Old Fort to sectional, league and regional
championships.
Three-time all-district and all-league honoree.
Lettered in volleyball three seasons under the guidance
of coach Nancy Hoover, helping team to a combined 60-14 from
2004-06.
