Cleveland State Volleyball Set To Host Oakland On Senior Night

QUICK SETS
The Cleveland State volleyball team will close out its regular season home slate this weekend, hosting Oakland on Friday, November 3 in the lone match of the week. Entering Friday's contest, the Vikings stand at 14-11 overall this year and 8-6 in league play, while Oakland is currently 15-11 on the year and 9-5 against #HLVB opponents.

ENTERING FRIDAY...
The Vikings will be trying to snap a mini two-game losing skid and pick up their sixth win over the last eight matches…Cleveland State is sixth in the #HLVB standings…The Vikings will be looking to end their regular season home slate with seven wins.

Friday's match will be Senior Night, as the Vikings will recognize the trio of Madalynn Butler, Abby Miller and Ainslie McLaughlin in a prematch ceremony. 

A LOOK AT THE #HLVB STANDINGS
Entering the seventh week of Horizon League play Cleveland State is sixth in the #HLVB standings with an 8-6 record. The Vikings, who are one of six league teams with a winning #HLVB record this season, are just three games out of first place, which is currently held by Milwaukee and Wright State with matching 11-3 records.

WALKER NOTCHES 1,000th CAREER DIG
Last time out, junior Emma Walker recorded the 1,000th dig of her collegiate career, eclipsing the mark with eight digs against Northern Kentucky. Entering Friday's match, Walker has 1,002 digs on her career, and has recorded 11 20-dig matches so far this season.

…WALKER IN THE LEAGUE STATS
Playing as Cleveland State's libero, Emma Walker is averaging 4.99 digs per set this season, a mark that ranks her third among #HLVB players. With 474 total digs so far this season, Walker is on track to record the first 500-dig season since Rachael Dohar in 2018. 

VIKING BLOCK PARTY
Through 25 matches played, the Vikings are one of the best blocking teams in the nation, ranking 19th among Division I teams with 229.0 total team blocks on the year. Cleveland State has tallied double-digit team blocks nine times this season, including three times in league play. In addition, the Vikings hold the top three performances among #HLVB teams so far this year with 24.0 blocks against Bucknell, 15.0 blocks against Kent State and 15.0 blocks at Akron. 

KLAER IN THE CSU CAREER RECORD BOOK
Sophomore Karly Klaer enters the week sitting 10th in the CSU Career Record Book with 1,728 assists through 53 matches as a Viking. Klaer, who eclipsed the 1,000-assist mark at Miami (OH) earlier this year, ranks third among league players averaging 9.02 assists per set, while leading the league with 857 total helpers on the year. 

…KLAER WITH THE DOUBLE-DOUBLE
So far this season, Karly Klaer has recorded 17 double-doubles, including two against Wright State and Northern Kentucky last time out. Klaer, who leads the team averaging 9.02 assists per set, also ranks second on the team with 2.92 digs per set. Klaer is one of three Vikings to notch a double-double this season, as Laken Voss has notched eight and Nia Hall has recorded one. 

TORRES LEADING THE VIKING OFFENSE
Through the first 25 matches, junior Liberty Torres has been leading the Viking offense, averaging 3.18 kills per set on a .232 hitting percentage. Torres, who is one of 10 #HLVB players with 280+ kills on the year, ranks sixth with her 3.18 kills per set average. Torres has notched double-digit kill performances in 17 of the 25 matches so far this season, including a pair of 20-kill efforts against RMU (24 kills) and at Oakland (21 kills).

HEAD COACH CHUCK VOSS
Chuck Voss is in his 24th season at the helm of the Vikings, and owns a 407-290 (.583) overall record at Cleveland State. Under Voss the Vikings have recorded 17 winning seasons, including a streak of 10 straight from 2009 to 2018. Cleveland State has eclipsed the 20-win mark eight times since Voss took over the program, and has captured Horizon League Tournament titles five times (2007, 2012, 2015, 2016 & 2017) under his guidance. During the 2016 season Voss became the all-time winningest coach in program history, and earlier this season Voss eclipsed the 400-win mark at Cleveland State with a 3-0 victory at IUPUI (September 19, 2023).
