Cleveland State Volleyball Earns 3-0 Sweep At RMU

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Cleveland State volleyball team picked up its fourth straight win Saturday, earning a 3-0 sweep at Robert Morris. With the win, the Vikings improve to 13-9 overall this season and 7-4 in Horizon League play.

Laken Voss led the Viking offense with 14 kills, while Liberty Torres added 10 and Ainslie McLaughlin chipped in eight.

Emma Walker tallied a team-best 22 digs, while Voss added 12 and Lesley Marshall posted 10 digs.

As a team, the Vikings combined for 11.0 total blocks, including six from JeriLynn Koehler and four from Madalynn Butler.

Cleveland State recorded seven service aces on the day, including three each from Koehler and Abby Miller.

During the opening set the Vikings were able to gain a sizeable lead midway through, as a stretch of five straight points put the Vikings up 14-8 on a Laken Voss kill. Cleveland State went on to hold this advantage throughout the remainder of the set then, as a Liberty Torres kill closed out the 25-12 first set victory.

The two teams played a tight second set then, as they traded points until the last few plays, when Cleveland State rattled off back-to-back points on a JeriLynn Koehler kill and Koehler and Madalynn Butler block to gain set point at 24-22. Koehler then closed out the frame with another kill, securing the 25-22 second set victory for the Vikings.

The Vikings carried their momentum into the third set, as they were able to gain a 17-12 lead midway through the frame following a mini 3-0 run that ended with a pair of Koehler and Nia Hall blocks. Cleveland State then extended its lead to 22-18 on a kill from Ainslie McLaughlin.

The Vikings then held off a late RMU run, closing out the set with by posting the final three points, to earn the 25-21 third set victory on a Hall kill.

Cleveland State will return home to begin a four-match homestand on Tuesday, October 24, hosting IUPUI at 6:00 p.m.
