During the opening set, the Vikings were able to battle back from an early deficit, gaining a four-point lead at 20-16 following a 4-0 scoring run. Cleveland State then held off a Penguin run to regain the advantage at 21-20 on a YSU error, before back-to-back kills from Laken Voss gave the Vikings set point at 24-21.

The Vikings then clinched the 25-21 first set victory on a Madalynn Butler kill.

Cleveland State carried its momentum into the second set then, as the Vikings jumped out to an early 8-2 lead on a Liberty Torres kill. The Vikings then held the lead for the majority of the frame, including a 20-17 advantage following a JeriLynn Koehler kill.

A Voss kill then gave Cleveland State set point at 24-21, while a block from Karly Klaer and Ainslie McLaughlin closed out the 25-22 second set victory.

Despite YSU picking up a win in the third set, the Vikings were able to regain control of the match throughout the fourth set.

After a back-and-forth start to the fourth set, the Vikings were able to distance themselves at the 12-7 mark following five straight points that ended with an Emma Walker service ace and YSU error. Although the Vikings were able to extend their lead to 17-14 on a Koehler kill, the Penguins made a run to tie the score late in the frame.

Cleveland State responded with back-to-back points on a Torres kill and a YSU error - gaining a 22-20 advantage - before a Klaer service ace gave the Vikings match point at 24-20. The Vikings then closed out the match with another Klaer ace, capturing the 25-20 fourth set victory.
