Cleveland State Volleyball Earns 3-1 Victory Over Green Bay

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State volleyball team returned to the friendly confines of Woodling Gymnasium Friday evening, picking up a 3-1 victory over league-leading Green Bay.

The Viking offense was led by Laken Voss with 17 kills and Liberty Torres with 16 kills, while Ainslie McLaughlin added 10 kills.

Karly Klaer notched 48 assists along with 12 digs and seven kills, while Emma Walker tallied a team-best 14 digs to lead the Cleveland State defense. In addition, Ayva Leon chipped in 10 digs.

After playing from behind for the majority of the first set, the Vikings were able to work their way back into the frame, as back-to-back points from a Laken Voss kill and a Phoenix error held off two set points and tied the frame at 24-24.

The Vikings then continued their scoring run with a Voss service ace to gain their own set point, before a Liberty Torres and Ainslie McLaughlin block closed out the 26-24 first set victory for Cleveland State.

Green Bay responded with a 25-22 win in the second set, but the Vikings earned a 2-1 match advantage after picking up a 25-18 victory in the third frame.

After a back-and-forth start to the set, the Vikings notched three straight points midway through the frame, gaining a 16-13 lead on a Karly Klaer kill. Cleveland State then held its advantage for the remainder of the frame, closing out the set with a pair of Voss kills.

The Vikings then carried their momentum into the fourth set, as they were once again able to come back from an early deficit to claim a 25-22 fourth set victory.

After the Phoenix gained a 22-18 advantage late in the frame, the Vikings notched the final seven points of the set - including four kills from Laken Voss. Cleveland State's match point came from Madison Olinger, capping off the 3-1 victory over league-leading Green Bay.

Cleveland State will close out its mini two-match homestand tomorrow, hosting Milwaukee at 4:00 p.m. for Alumnae Day.
