ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Cleveland State volleyball team returned to action Friday evening, dropping a 3-1 match at Oakland.
After dropping the first two sets - including a tight 27-25 second set - the Vikings were able to rebound during the third frame, earning a 25-19 victory.
Cleveland State was able to gain an early lead at 9-5 following a Laken Voss kill, before back-to-back kills from Voss and Ainslie McLaughlin put the Vikings up 11-6.
Cleveland State then extended its lead once again midway through the frame, as a stretch of four straight points that ended with a Karly Klaer service ace gave the Vikings a 17-10 advantage.
The Vikings then held the lead throughout the rest of the frame, with a Liberty Torres kill closing out the 25-19 frame.
Despite trailing midway through the fourth set, the Vikings were able to work their way back late in the frame, but they were unable to close it out, dropping a 29-27 fourth set as Oakland picked up the 3-1 match victory.
The Vikings will return home next weekend, hosting Green Bay on Friday, October 13 and Milwaukee on Saturday, October 14.
