CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team will close out non-league play with two matches this week, hosting Kent State on Thursday, September 14 and traveling to Akron on Friday, September 15. Entering the weekend, the Vikings stand at 5-4 on the young season.
Thursday's match against Kent State will close out a four-match homestand for the Vikings, which is part of a 13-match schedule inside Woodling Gymnasium during the 2023 campaign.
Friday's contest at Akron will be the second meeting between the two teams this season, with Cleveland State earning a 3-1 victory against the Zips last week.
After the first three weeks of the season Cleveland State leads all Horizon League teams averaging 2.65 blocks per set, including a season-high 22.0 total team blocks against Bucknell last time out. Individually, Madison Olinger ranks second with 1.17 blocks per set, while Ainslie McLaughlin ranks eighth (0.86 blocks/set).

Defensively, Emma Walker has played as Cleveland State's libero during all nine matches, ranking fifth among Horizon League players with 4.50 digs per set. In addition, Karly Klaer is averaging 2.79 digs per set and Lake Voss is averaging 2.15 digs per set.
Klaer has a team-best five double-doubles so far this season, also averaging 7.88 assists per set to rank fourth in the category. After eclipsing the 1,000-assist mark earlier this season, Klaer enters the week with 1,139 total assists.
Head coach Chuck Voss enters the week needing just two more wins to reach 400 victories during his time at Cleveland State, owning a 398-283 record with the Vikings.
