QUICK SETS
The Cleveland State volleyball team will continue its six-match roadswing to begin the 2023 campaign this weekend, traveling to Miami (OH) for the 2023 Miami/Best Western Invitational. The Vikings will face Florida Atlantic (Friday, September 1), the host Redhawks (Friday, September 1), and Eastern Kentucky (Saturday, September 2) throughout the two-day tournament.

ENTERING THE WEEK...
The Vikings have a chance to go 6-0 to start the season for the third time in program history (1977 & 2010)…Cleveland State stands as the only undefeated #HLVB team…The Vikings have posted back-to-back 3-0 sweeps. 

EARLY SEASON SUCCESS
For the seventh time under head coach Chuck Voss the Vikings captured a tournament title during the opening weekend of play, posting a 3-0 record last time out to claim the Leatherneck Classic title. This marked the first preseason tournament title for the Vikings since 2018, while it also marked the first 3-0 start to the season since the same year. 

…THREE NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Last time out, the Viking trio of Liberty Torres, Laken Voss and Emma Walker were named to the Leatherneck Classic All-Tournament Team, with Torres earning MVP honors. This marked the second All-Tournament Team accolade for Voss on her career, while it was the first for Torres and Walker. 

TORRES NAMED #HLVB PLAYER OF THE WEEK
After earning Leatherneck Classic MVP honors and helping Cleveland State capture the team title, junior Liberty Torres was named the #HLVB Player of the Week. Torres averaged 2.27 kills per set on a .328 hitting percentage on the weekend, including 10 kills in the season opener against Murray State. In addition, Torres also added eight digs and two blocks on the weekend, picking up her first #HLVB weekly honor. 

VIKINGS FROM THE SERVICE LINE
Through the first week of the season, Cleveland State has been the best team in the Horizon League from behind the service line, recording 23 service aces in the three matches last weekend. The Vikings, who are averaging 2.09 aces per set, recorded 11 service aces against Murray State in the season opener, and followed that up with four at Western Illinois and eight against Tennessee State. 

VOSS PICKING UP WHERE SHE LEFT OFF
After posting a team-high and CSU Freshman Class Record 389 total kills last season, sophomore Laken Voss is picking up right where she left off, combining for 43 kills last weekend. Voss, who leads the Horizon League averaging 3.91 kills per set this season, recorded double-digit kills in all three matches last weekend, including a season-high 16 kills at Western Illinois. 

KLAER CLOSING IN ON 1,000 ASSISTS
Entering the week, sophomore Karly Klaer is just 56 assists shy of reaching the 1,000-assist mark, currently owning 954 helpers on her career. After the first tournament of preseason Klaer is averaging 7.55 assists per set, and currently ranks fourth among #HLVB players in the category. 

TRIO MAKES VIKING DEBUTS
Last weekend, the trio of Nia Hall, JeriLynn Koehler and Reilly Wadden all made their collegiate debuts. Koehler finished with four kills in one appearance, Hall posted two kills in one appearance, while Wadden finished with 19 total digs in three appearances. 

VIKINGS TABBED FIFTH IN #HLVB PRESEASON POLL
Prior to the 2023 campaign starting, the Vikings were tabbed to finish fifth in the #HLVB Preseason Poll, earning 66 votes. Cleveland State finished behind league favorite Wright State, Northern Kentucky, Green Bay, and Milwaukee.

HEAD COACH CHUCK VOSS
Chuck Voss is in his 24th season at the helm of the Vikings, and owns a 393-279 (.584) overall record at Cleveland State. Under Voss the Vikings have recorded 17 winning seasons, including a streak of 10 straight from 2009 to 2018. Cleveland State has eclipsed the 20-win mark eight times since Voss took over the program, and has captured Horizon League Tournament titles five times (2007, 2012, 2015, 2016 & 2017) under his guidance. During the 2016 season Voss became the all-time winningest coach in program history, and is closing in on becoming the only active Horizon League coach to reach the 400-win mark at their current school.

Cleveland State will open the home portion of its schedule with three matches next week, hosting Akron (Wednesday, September 6), Harvard (Friday, September 8) and Bucknell (Saturday, September 9).
