QUICK SETS
The Cleveland State volleyball team will open the 2023 season this weekend, traveling to Western Illinois for the Leatherneck Classic. This will mark the first three matches of an 11-match non-league schedule, as the Vikings are set to face Murray State (Friday, August 25), Western Illinois (Friday, August 25) and Tennessee State (Saturday, August 26).

ENTERING THE WEEK…
The Vikings will be kicking off their 52nd season of volleyball, and 24th under head coach Chuck Voss…Cleveland State will be trying to win its seventh season-opening tournament title under Voss…The Vikings will be trying to their seventh 3-0 start to a season under Voss.  

CSU IN SEASON-OPENING TOURNAMENTS
Since the 2000 season when Chuck Voss took over the Cleveland State volleyball program, the Vikings have posted a 40-25 record in season-opening tournaments, including a 26-16 record over the last 13 years.

THE 2023 LINEUP
The Vikings return 12 letterwinners from last year's team that advanced to the semifinals of the #HLVB tournament, including reigning #HLVB Freshman of the Year Laken Voss and All-League honorees Karly Klaer and Madison Olinger. The 12 returners will be joined by five newcomers for the 2023 campaign.

VIKINGS TABBED FIFTH IN #HLVB PRESEASON POLL
Prior to the 2023 campaign starting, the Vikings were tabbed to finish fifth in the #HLVB Preseason Poll, earning 66 votes. Cleveland State finished behind league favorite Wright State, Northern Kentucky, Green Bay, and Milwaukee. 

HEAD COACH CHUCK VOSS
Chuck Voss is in his 24th season at the helm of the Vikings, and owns a 393-279 (.584) overall record at Cleveland State. Under Voss the Vikings have recorded 17 winning seasons, including a streak of 10 straight from 2009-2018. Cleveland State has eclipsed the 20-win mark eight times since Voss took over the program, and has captured Horizon League Tournament titles five times (2007, 2012, 2015, 2016 & 2017) under his guidance.

UP NEXT
The Vikings will continue their early season tournament schedule at the Miami (OH) Invitational, facing Florida Atlantic, Eastern Kentucky and the host Redhawks on Friday, September 1 and Saturday, September 2.
