Cleveland State Volleyball Earns 3-1 Victory Over Milwaukee On Senior Day

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team picked up its second win of the weekend Saturday, earning a 3-1 victory over Milwaukee on Senior Day.

A trio of Vikings finished with double-digit kills, including the senior duo of Lydia Latimer with 10 and Peyton Bloomer with 11. Laken Voss also chipped in 12 kills to lead the Viking offense.

Karly Klaer tallied 41 assists as Cleveland State posted a .266 hitting percentage on the match, while also adding 12 digs for a double-double against the Panthers.

Emma Walker led the Vikings with 24 digs, while Voss added 11.

As a team, Cleveland State combined for 14.0 total blocks on the day, including nine from Madison Olinger and five from Bloomer.

During the opening set the two teams played a tightly contested frame, with the Vikings posting back-to-back points late in the set on a Latimer kill and service ace to knot the score at 20-20. Cleveland State then gained a 21-20 advantage on a Madison Olinger kill, before Milwaukee would knot the score once more at 21-21.

Cleveland State then rattled off four of the final five points, closing out the 25-22 first set victory on a Madison Quirino kill.

The two teams once again traded points throughout the start of the second set, until a 6-0 run from the Vikings gave them a 17-12 advantage on a Laken Voss kill. Cleveland State was then able to control play throughout the remainder of the frame, posting four straight points to earn the 25-16 set victory.

After dropping the third set, the Vikings were able to rebound during the fourth frame, picking up a 25-21 win to clinch the four-set victory. Cleveland State was able to distance itself midway through the frame, gaining a 13-8 edge after three straight points – including an Olinger and Bloomer block and a Klaer kill.

Cleveland state was then able to hold a sizeable lead over the rest of the frame, closing out the set with back-to-back kills from Latimer and Klaer.

Cleveland State will close out the regular season on the road next weekend, traveling to IUPUI (Friday, November 11) and Purdue Fort Wayne (Saturday, November 12).
