Cleveland State Volleyball Picks Up 3-1 Victory Over IUPUI

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team got back in the win column Saturday afternoon, picking up a 3-1 victory over IUPUI.

Laken Voss led the Viking offense with 20 kills on the match, while Madison Olinger added 11 kills on a .600 hitting percentage (11-2-15). Karly Klaer finished with 37 assists on the match, helping the Vikings to a .234 hitting percentage.

Emma Walker tallied 20 digs on the day, while Sarah DeGeorge added 15 digs, and Karly Klaer chipped in 10.

The Vikings combined for 10 service aces against the Jaguars, including five from DeGeorge.

As a team, Cleveland State combined for 12.0 total blocks, with Lydia Latimer notching six and Voss and Olinger each posting five.

During the opening set, the Vikings were able to gain a 13-4 advantage midway through the frame following a trio of Audrey McConihe service aces and a Lydia Latimer kill. The Vikings then went on to hold a sizeable advantage throughout the rest of the frame, earning set point on another Latimer kill before closing out the 25-18 victory with a Latimer and Karly Klaer block.

The second set was much of the same, as the Vikings were once again able to distance themselves midway through the set, gaining a five-point lead at the 13-8 mark on a Klaer kill. Cleveland State then held IUPUI to just four more points throughout the frame, earning the 25-12 set victory on a Laken Voss kill.

After dropping the third set, the Vikings responded with a 25-21 victory during the fourth set, picking up the 3-1 match victory. Despite a back-and-forth start to the set, Cleveland State was able to notch five straight points midway through, gaining a 16-10 advantage on back-to-back service aces from Sarah DeGeorge.

The Vikings then controlled play throughout the remainder of the frame, closing out the set with a Liberty Torres kill and an IUPUI error.
