Cleveland State Volleyball Returns Home For Three Match Homestand

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team will return to Woodling Gymnasium to begin a three-match homestand this weekend, hosting Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday, October 14 and IUPUI on Saturday, October 15. Friday's match is slated for a 6:00 p.m. start, while Saturday's contest will begin at 4:00 p.m.

Entering the weekend, Cleveland State stands at 3-4 in #HLVB play, including a 3-0 sweep over Oakland last time the Vikings played inside Woodling Gymnasium. 

So far this season, the Vikings have been one of the best blocking teams in the Horizon League, as they currently rank second averaging 2.41 blocks per set after the first seven weeks of the 2022 campaign. Through 18 matches, Cleveland State has tallied a league-high 41 solo blocks, including 12 from Lydia Latimer and Madison Olinger.

Among #HLVB players, Latimer ranks second averaging 1.20 blocks per set, while Olinger ranks seventh with 1.03 blocks per set. 

Offensively, Laken Voss enters the weekend with a team-best 226 total kills on the season, and has tallied 10+ kills in 14 matches so far this season, including 13 kills at Milwaukee and 17 kills at Green Bay last time out. Voss, who is averaging 3.42 kills per set, ranks fourth among league players and is the only freshman to rank in the top-five in the category. 

Karly Klaer continued to lead the Viking offense against the Panthers and Phoenix last weekend, notching a season-best 44 assists at Green Bay for her third 40-assist match of the year. Klaer is now averaging 7.83 assists per set, and ranks fourth in the #HLVB standings with 462 total helpers this season. 

After this weekend's matches, the Vikings will have four more matches at home this season, including a 6:00 p.m. contest against Robert Morris on Tuesday, October 18.
