Defensively, the Vikings were led by Audrey McConihe who finished with 21 digs, while Halayna Kesling posted 13 and Emma Walker finished with 11.

After dropping the first two sets, the Vikings responded by earning a 25-23 victory in the third set, before picking up a convincing 25-14 win in set four and a 15-9 victory in the fifth and deciding set.

During the third frame, the Vikings were able to control play throughout the majority of the set, and picked up two of the final three points on a pair of Portis kills, to keep the Vikings in the match.

The Vikings were then able to carry their momentum into the fourth set, as they earned a 17-9 advantage midway through the frame on seven straight points, ending with a McConihe service ace and RMU error. Cleveland State then controlled play throughout the rest of the set, closing out the 25-14 victory with three straight points on a Colonial error, Portis kill and Ainslie McLaughlin block.

After rallying back from two sets down, the Vikings got a quick start during the deciding set, as they gained a 10-4 advantage on a Portis and McLaughlin block. After RMU answered with three straight points, the Vikings were able to regain a five-point lead on a Portis kill and RMU error. Cleveland State then closed out the set with back-to-back kills from Portis and Avery.
