CLEVELAND STATE MATCH NOTES

QUICK SETS
The Cleveland State volleyball team will begin the second half of Horizon League play this weekend, returning to Woodling Gymnasium for a pair of matches against Youngstown State and Robert Morris. The Vikings will face Youngstown State on Saturday, October 23, and will then take on Robert Morris on Sunday, October 24.

THE FIRST TIME AROUND
This weekend's matches will begin the second half of #HLVB play for the Vikings, and the second meeting between CSU and Youngstown State and Robert Morris this year. Earlier this season, the Vikings picked up back-to-back 3-0 victories against both teams, opening their Horizon League slate with a perfect 2-0 start. Since RMU joined the Horizon League prior to the 2020-21 season, Cleveland State owns a perfect 3-0 record in the series, while the Vikings have won four straight against YSU.

MILLER AMONG #HLVB LEADERS
After notching her 1,000th career assist against UIC earlier this season, Abby Miller continues to be one of the top setters in the league, ranking sixth averaging 8.09 assists per set. Miller, who enters this weekend's matches with 1,109 career helpers, has notched 40+ assists four times this season, including a 43-assist performance at Purdue Fort Wayne last week. On the year, Miller has 542 total assists, marking her second straight season with 500+ assists (567 during 2021 the spring campaign).

BLOOMER & KOSTELAC AGAINST THE MASTODONS
In the first match of last week's roadswing, Peyton Bloomer and Erica Kostelac both notched 17 kills against Purdue Fort Wayne, Bloomer tying her career-high and Kostelac setting a season-high. The 17 kills against the Mastodons also tied the season-high for the Vikings this year, while it marked Bloomer's 11th double-digit kill match of the season and the third for Kostelac.

McCONIHE LEADING THE VIKING DEFENSE
Junior libero Audrey McConihe continues to lead the Viking defense, entering the week averaging 3.74 digs per set on the season. Through 10 #HLVB matches, McConihe has posted double-digit digs eight times, including a pair of 22-dig performances against IUPUI and Milwaukee. In league matches only, McConihe ranks fifth in the #HLVB standings averaging 3.94 digs per set.

CLEVELAND STATE OPENS #HLVB PLAY 4-0
Earlier this season the Vikings opened the #HLVB portion of their schedule with four straight wins, marking just the third time under head coach Chuck Voss that Cleveland State has opened league play with a 4-0 record (2015, 2018). During this stretch the Vikings picked up wins against Robert Morris, Youngstown State, IUPUI, and Oakland, becoming one of just two league teams to earn wins in their first four #HLVB matches of the season (Milwaukee).

ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM HONORS
Through non-league play Cleveland State had three players earn All-Tournament Team recognition; London Portis (Baltimore Invitational), Audrey McConihe (Eagle Challenge) and Ainslie McLaughlin (Colgate Invitational). All three Vikings were named to an All-Tournament Team for the first time in their collegiate careers.

HEAD COACH CHUCK VOSS
Chuck Voss is in his 22nd season at the helm of the Vikings, and owns a 377-256 (.595) overall record at Cleveland State. Under Voss the Vikings have recorded 17 winning seasons, including a streak of 10 straight from 2009 to 2018. Cleveland State has eclipsed the 20-win mark eight times since Voss took over the program, and has captured Horizon League Tournament titles five times (2007, 2012, 2015, 2016 & 2017) under his guidance. During the 2016 season Voss became the all-time winningest coach in program history, and then later became the only active Horizon League coach to reach the 350-win mark at their current school.

UP NEXT
Cleveland State will continue Horizon League play with a single match next week, traveling to Oakland on Friday, October 29.
