Miller Records 1,000th Career Assist As Vikings Fall To UIC

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team wrapped up its current five-match homestand Sunday afternoon, dropping a 3-1 decision to UIC. The Vikings finished the match with a 6-12 overall record and a 4-3 mark in Horizon League play.

With 39 assists against the Flames, sophomore Abby Miller eclipsed the 1,000-assist mark for her career, finishing the match with 1,035 helpers.

Offensively, Erica Kostelac posted 14 kills – a CSU career-high – while London Portis added 11 and Madalynn Butler recorded nine.

Audrey McConihe tallied 17 digs to lead the Viking defense, marking her seventh 15+ dig match of the season.

As a team, the Vikings combined for 10.0 total blocks, including four a piece from Lydia Latimer, Ainslie McLaughlin, Portis, and Miller.

The Match
After the Flames were able to grab a 25-13 victory during the opening set, Cleveland State responded with a 25-18 second-set victory.

During the second frame, the Vikings jumped out to a 6-1 lead following back-to-back kills from Butler, and then went on to hold a sizeable advantage throughout the remainder of the contest. Midway through the set the Vikings were able to extend their lead once again, posting four straight points to gain a 17-9 lead on a Lydia Latimer service ace.

Although UIC was able to fight off three set points late in the frame, the Vikings finally put the frame away with a Kostelac kill for the 25-18 second set victory.

The two teams traded points throughout the third set then – and the Vikings fought off four set points – but the Flames were able to earn the 28-26 third set win.

UIC then claimed a 25-20 victory during the fourth frame, claiming the 3-1 victory over the Vikings.
