CLEVELAND STATE OPENS #HLVB PLAY WITH 2-0 START
For the sixth time under head coach Chuck Voss the Vikings opened Horizon League play with a 2-0 start last weekend, posting back-to-back 3-0 sweeps at Robert Morris and Youngstown State. With the two wins, the Vikings are now 184-120 in regular season #HLVB matches under Voss, while the 3-0 victory against the Colonials put the Vikings at 13-8 in Horizon League openers.

ROAD WARRIORS
To open the 2021 season the Vikings played their entire non-league slate away from home and played their first two #HLVB contests on the road. During this stretch the Vikings traveled to six different states and covered over 3,400 miles. This marked the third time under head coach Chuck Voss that the Vikings started a season with 10 or more road matches; 2017-13, 2006-11, 2000-10.

…HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
This week's matches against IUPUI and Oakland are part of a five-match homestand for the Vikings, as they begin their nine-match home slate for the 2021 season. After playing the first five weeks on the road, the Vikings will finally be playing in the friendly confines of Woodling Gymnasium, a place where they own a 41-14 record over the last five seasons.

VIKINGS IN THE #HLVB STATS
Entering the week, two Vikings rank among the league's best in individual statistical categories; Abby Miller ranking fifth averaging 7.74 assists per set and Ainslie McLaughlin ranking eighth averaging 0.86 blocks per set. Through the first five weeks of the 2021 campaign, Miller has tallied 294 total assists, while McLaughlin has combined for 30 total blocks (23 block assists and seven solo blocks).

CLEVELAND STATE FROM THE SERVICE LINE
After the first two #HLVB matches of the season Cleveland State leads the league in service aces, averaging 2.33 aces per set. Last weekend, the Vikings posted five aces at RMU and nine aces at YSU, with five different Vikings recording an ace on the weekend. Emma Walker and Abby Miller both combined for four service aces against RMU and YSU, while Halayna Kesling added three, Chelsea Penfield posted two and Audrey McConihe finished with one.

PORTIS HAS STRONG OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE AT YSU
Last time out, London Portis had one of the best offensive performances of the season, as she finished with 16 kills on a .667 hitting percentage at Youngstown State. The 16 kills tied Portis' career-high, while the .667 clip marked a career-best for the senior. So far this season, Portis has notched double-digit kills three times, and enters the week averaging 2.42 kills per set.

BLOOMER NOTCHES BACK-TO-BACK DOUBLE-DIGIT KILL MATCHES
Junior Peyton Bloomer was a large part of the Viking offense during the first weekend of #HLVB play, as she combined for a team-high 25 total kills on the two matches. Bloomer posted 14 kills against RMU and followed that up with 11 kills against YSU, finishing the weekend ranked fourth among league players averaging 4.17 kills per set in league matches only.

ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM HONORS
Through non-league play Cleveland State had three players earn All-Tournament Team recognition; London Portis (Baltimore Invitational), Audrey McConihe (Eagle Challenge) and Ainslie McLaughlin (Colgate Invitational). All three Vikings were named to an All-Tournament Team for the first time in their collegiate careers.

VIKINGS POST STRONG SEMESTER IN THE CLASSROOM
With the 2021 Spring Semester in the books, the Vikings posted one of their best semesters in program history, finishing with a 3.77 Team GPA for the term - one of seven Cleveland State teams to post a 3.75+ GPA last semester. HEAD COACH CHUCK VOSS
Chuck Voss is in his 22nd season at the helm of the Vikings, and owns a 375-250 (.600) overall record at Cleveland State. Under Voss the Vikings have recorded 17 winning seasons, including a streak of 10 straight from 2009 to 2018. Cleveland State has eclipsed the 20-win mark eight times since Voss took over the program, and has captured Horizon League Tournament titles five times (2007, 2012, 2015, 2016 & 2017) under his guidance. During the 2016 season Voss became the all-time winningest coach in program history, and then later became the only active Horizon League coach to reach the 350-win mark at their current school.
