Cleveland State Volleyball Falls To Evansville In Eagle Challenge Finale

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Cleveland State volleyball team wrapped up action at the Eagle Challenge Saturday, dropping a 3-0 match against Evansville. The Vikings finish the second weekend of the 2021 season with a 2-4 record.

Liberty Torres and Chelsea Penfield both recorded six kills on the day to lead the Viking offense, while Audrey McConihe and Abby Miller both posted a team-best nine digs on the match.

Four Vikings finished the day with two total blocks – Torres, Penfield, Peyton Bloomer, and Ainslie McLaughlin.

After the first two weekends of the 2021 season Peyton Bloomer leads the Vikings with 55 total kills, while McConihe has a team-high 73 total digs on the year. Miller is averaging 7.41 assists per set, while Miller and Penfield have combined for 26 total blocks through the first six matches.

This weekend's Eagle Challenge marked the second of four preseason tournaments for the Vikings this season – all four of which will come on the road – as the Vikings are in the midst of a 14-match roadswing to begin the 2021 campaign.

Next up for the Vikings will be the Colgate Invitational (Friday, September 10 & Saturday, September 11), with Cleveland State facing Princeton, Hofstra and Colgate over the two-day tournament.
