Volleyball Earns 3-0 Victory Over YSU On Senior Day

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team wrapped up regular season play Tuesday evening, posting a 3-0 sweep over Youngstown State on Senior Day. The Vikings finished the 2021 campaign with a 9-7 overall record.

Match Stats
· Hannah Greene led the Vikings with 12 kills on the match, while London Portis added nine and Peyton Bloomer posted eight.
· Abby Miller finished with 32 assists on the match.
· Audrey McConihe posted a team-best 16 digs, while Halle Schoen notched 10 and Emily DeGeorge and Abby Miller both added nine.
· Chelsea Penfield recorded a team-high four total blocks, while Hannah Greene, London Portis and Peyton Bloomer all added three.

Match Notes
· With the 12 kills against YSU, Hannah Greene finished the year posting double-digit kills during 12 matches.
· After posting nine digs on the match, Emily DeGeorge finished her career ranked fifth in the CSU Career Record Book with 1,307 total digs.
· Audrey McConihe was serving as Cleveland State's libero for the second straight match.
· Cleveland State's defense held YSU to a -.027 hitting percentage on the night.

The Match
During the opening set the two teams traded points throughout the beginning of the frame, until the Vikings were able to tally four straight points to gain a 15-13 advantage on a pair of YSU errors. The Vikings were then able to hold the advantage for the rest of the frame, closing out the set on a Hannah Greene kill.

The Vikings then cruised to a 25-7 victory during the second set, gaining a 2-0 lead in the match.

During the third set, the Vikings were able to get out to an early 4-1 lead, and then extended the lead to 9-4 following a Hannah Greene kill and a pair of YSU errors. The Vikings were then able to go on a 4-0 run midway through the frame, gaining a 17-12 lead on an Abby Miller kill.

Cleveland State then closed out the frame with six straight points, including a pair of blocks from Chelsea Penfield/London Portis and Chelsea Penfield/Emily DeGeorge, to earn the 25-14 third set victory.

The Vikings picked up their seventh 3-0 sweep of the season on Tuesday, and notched their third series sweep of the year.
