CLEVELAND STATE MATCH NOTES

QUICK SETS
The Cleveland State volleyball team will close out the regular season this week, hosting Youngstown State on Monday, March 15 and Tuesday, March 16. The Vikings enter the week with an even 7-7 record on the year, while Youngstown State is 3-7 overall this season.

ENTERING THE WEEK…
The Vikings will be looking for their third series sweep of the season…Cleveland State will be trying to improve to 6-2 when playing at Woodling Gymnasium this season…The Vikings will be trying for their 17th winning season under head coach Chuck Voss.

SCOUTING THE PENGUINS
Youngstown State enters the week with a 3-7 record on the year, currently ranking eighth in the Horizon League standings…The Penguins have lost seven of their last eight matches, with their lone win during this stretch coming as a 3-2 decision over Robert Morris…Youngstown State's other two wins on the season came as a series sweep over IUPUI to begin the season, as the Penguins posted 3-2 and 3-1 wins over the Jaguars.

2021 SENIOR DAY
Tuesday's match against the Penguins will serve as Senior Night for Cleveland State, as the Vikings will honor the trio of Halle Schoen, Hannah Greene and Emily DeGeorge prior to the match. This trio helped the Vikings to a Horizon League tournament title as freshmen, while they have helped CSU combine for 50+ wins over their four seasons in the Green & White.

GREENE ON THE ATTACK
Entering the week, senior Hannah Greene is averaging a team-best 3.24 kills per set - a mark that ranks fifth among Horizon League players. Greene has notched double-digit kills in 11 of the 13 matches so far this season, including in each of the last eight contests. Greene, who has led the Cleveland State offense during 10 matches this year, also ranks ninth among league players with a .284 hitting percentage on the season.

…TWO-TIME #HLVB PLAYER OF THE WEEK
So far this season, Hannah Greene has picked up two weekly honors from the Horizon League, as she was named one of their Players of the Week on February 18 and March 4. With her two weekly honors, Greene is one of four league players to have multiple #HLVB Player of the Week accolades to their name this season.

MILLER LEADING THE VIKING OFFENSE
Freshman Abby Miller continues to lead the Viking offense, serving as Cleveland State's primary setter through the first six #HLVB series. So far this season, Miller is averaging 9.82 assists per set to rank third among league players. After combining for 78 helpers at Wright State last time out, Miller leads the league with 501 total assists on the year. As just the third freshman to lead the Viking offense as the primary setter over the last 13 seasons, Miller has posted 40-assist matches in four of the last six outings, including a career-high of 48 against Purdue Fort Wayne (February 22).

KUCIA IN THE CSU BACK ROW
Freshman Caroline Kucia once again led the Viking defense against Wright State last time out, combining for 26 digs as the Cleveland State libero. Kucia, who is averaging 3.47 digs per set since stepping into the libero role, notched a season-high 18 digs against the Raiders in the series opener. Kucia has been leading a Viking defense that is averaging 16.71 digs per set on the season, holding their opponents to a .183 hitting percentage - the fourth lowest clip among #HLVB teams.

CAREER RECORD BOOK TRACKING: HANNAH GREENE
Entering the week, senior Hannah Greene is ranked in the top-10 in three CSU Career Record Book categories, as she ranks eighth in total blocks (385), block assists (324) and solo blocks (61). Last time out, Greene combined for 12 total blocks at Wright State, moving into second place in the Horizon League standings averaging 1.18 blocks per set this season.

CAREER RECORD BOOK TRACKING: EMILY DEGEORGE
Senior Emily DeGeorge added to her career dig total at Wright State last week, entering the Youngstown State series ranked fifth on the CSU Career Digs List with 1,286. Last time out, DeGeorge combined for 33 digs against the Raiders, notching double-digit digs in both matches as she now has 70 career double-digit digs matches. With just 14 more digs, DeGeorge would become the fifth Viking all-time to reach the 1,300-dig milestone.

SCHOEN NAMED CLEVELAND STATE SAAC PRESIDENT
Prior to the 2020-21 academic school year, Cleveland State senior Halle Schoen was named the Cleveland State SAAC President, and will serve in the role for the remainder of the year. This will be Schoen's third year as an active member of CSU SAAC, as she was the Community Service Co-Chair as a junior and an active Board Member as a sophomore.

VIKINGS POST STRONG SEMESTER IN THE CLASSROOM
With the 2020 Fall Semester in the books, the Vikings posted one of their best semesters in program history, finishing with a 3.86 Team GPA for the term - the highest GPA among all 18 Cleveland State teams last semester. In addition, six Vikings were named to the Cleveland State President's List3.90+ (Halle Schoen, Audrey McConihe, Lydia Latimer, Keanna Avery, Sarah Green, Abby Miller), while nine Vikings earned a spot on the Cleveland State Dean's List3.25+ (Hannah Greene, Emily DeGeorge, Lindsey Tout, Chelsea Penfield, Peyton Bloomer, Caroline Kucia, Madalynn Butler, Ainslie McLaughlin, Sam Snow).

HEAD COACH CHUCK VOSS
Chuck Voss is in his 21st season at the helm of the Vikings, and owns a 368-241 (.604) overall record at Cleveland State. Under Voss the Vikings have recorded 16 winning seasons, including a streak of 10 straight from 2009 to 2018. Cleveland State has eclipsed the 20-win mark eight times since Voss took over the program, and has captured Horizon League Tournament titles five times (2007, 2012, 2015, 2016 & 2017) under his guidance. During the 2016 season Voss became the all-time winningest coach in program history, and then later became the only active Horizon League coach to reach the 350-win mark at their current school.
