CLEVELAND STATE MATCH NOTES

QUICK SETS
The Cleveland State volleyball team will hit the road for the final time during regular season play this week, traveling to league-leading Wright State on Monday, March 8 and Tuesday, March 9. The Vikings enter the week with a 7-5 record on the year, while Wright State is 10-1 overall and 10-0 in Horizon League play.

ENTERING THE WEEK…
The Vikings will be looking for their third series sweep of the season…Cleveland State will be trying to extend its current two-match winstreak…The Vikings will be trying to close out the road portion of their regular season slate with a 5-3 record.

SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Wright State enters the week with a 10-1 overall record on the year, including a perfect 10-0 mark in Horizon League play…So far this season, eight of the Radiers' 10 wins in league play have come as 3-0 sweeps…Earlier this year, Wright State was selected as the #HLVB Preseason favorite…As a team, Wright State leads the league averaging 2.81 blocks per set, while the Raiders are also averaging a league-high 19.68 digs per set…Individually, Nyssa Baker ranks second in blocks (1.22), while Jenna Story ranks second in digs (6.24) through six weeks of #HLVB play.

2021 #HLVB PLAY
This year's Horizon League schedule has had a different look to it, as the Vikings have faced the same opponent in back-to-back matches each week. Cleveland State is scheduled to host one more #HLVB series against Youngstown State, while the Vikings will travel to Wright State for the final roadtrip of the regular season.

LAST TIME OUT…
The Vikings picked up their second series sweep of the season, posting back-to-back 3-0 victories over Robert Morris. With the wins, the Vikings improved to 31-1 all-time against the Colonials, while they finished the regular season with a 3-1 mark against the 2020-21 Horizon League newcomers - Purdue Fort Wayne and Robert Morris. 

GREENE NAMED #HLVB PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Last week, senior Hannah Greene was named one of the Horizon League Players of the Week, picking up her second weekly honor of the 2021 campaign. Greene combined for 23 kills on a .360 hitting percentage against Robert Morris, while also combining for 10 total blocks on the series. Greene led the Vikings to a pair of 3-0 victories against the Colonials, marking the fourth and fifth sweeps of the season for Cleveland State.

…GREENE ON THE ATTACK
Entering the week, senior Hannah Greene is averaging a team-best 3.24 kills per set - a mark that ranks sixth among Horizon League players. Greene has notched double-digit kills in nine of the 12 matches so far this season, including in each of the last six contests. Greene, who has led the Cleveland State offense during eight matches this year, also ranks eighth among league players with a .301 hitting percentage on the season.

MILLER LEADING THE VIKING OFFENSE
Freshman Abby Miller continues to lead the Viking offense, serving as Cleveland State's primary setter through the first six #HLVB series. So far this season, Miller is averaging 10.07 assists per set to rank second among league players. After combining for 82 helpers against Robert Morris last time out, Miller leads the league with 423 total assists on the year. As just the third freshman to lead the Viking offense as the primary setter over the last 13 seasons, Miller has posted 40-assist matches in three of the last four outings, including a career-high of 48 against Purdue Fort Wayne (February 22).

KUCIA IN THE CSU BACK ROW
Freshman Caroline Kucia once again led the Viking defense against Robert Morris last time out, combining for 31 digs as the Cleveland State libero. Kucia, who is averaging 3.68 digs per set since stepping into the libero role, notched 14 in the first match of the week and followed that up with a season-high tying 17 digs in the series finale. Kucia has been leading a Viking defense that is averaging 16.38 digs per set on the season, holding their opponents to a .175 hitting percentage - the fourth lowest clip among #HLVB teams.

BLOOMER PICKING UP THE PACE
Last time out, sophomore Peyton Bloomer notched back-to-back double-digit kill matches for the first time in her career, finishing with a team-high 13 in the first match against Robert Morris and following that up with 11 in the series finale. Against the Colonials, Bloomer averaged a team-best 4.00 kills per set on a .362 hitting percentage, while she is averaging 2.22 kills per set on the season.

CAREER RECORD BOOK TRACKING: HANNAH GREENE
Entering the week, senior Hannah Greene is ranked in the top-10 in three CSU Career Record Book categories, as she ranks eighth in total blocks (373), block assists (313) and solo blocks (60). Greene moved up the rankings in total blocks and solo blocks after the Robert Morris series last week, while she is one of five Vikings to be currently rank in the top-10 in all three categories.

CAREER RECORD BOOK TRACKING: EMILY DEGEORGE
Senior Emily DeGeorge moved into fifth place on the CSU Career Digs List following the Robert Morris series last time out, entering the week with 1,253 career digs. DeGeorge combined for 23 digs against the Colonials, including a 14-dig effort in the first match of the series which marked the 68th double-digit dig match of her career. With 47 more digs, DeGeorge would become the fifth Viking all-time to reach the 1,300-dig milestone.

SCHOEN NAMED CLEVELAND STATE SAAC PRESIDENT
Prior to the 2020-21 academic school year, Cleveland State senior Halle Schoen was named the Cleveland State SAAC President, and will serve in the role for the remainder of the year. This will be Schoen's third year as an active member of CSU SAAC, as she was the Community Service Co-Chair as a junior and an active Board Member as a sophomore.

VIKINGS POST STRONG SEMESTER IN THE CLASSROOM
With the 2020 Fall Semester in the books, the Vikings posted one of their best semesters in program history, finishing with a 3.86 Team GPA for the term - the highest GPA among all 18 Cleveland State teams last semester. In addition, six Vikings were named to the Cleveland State President's List3.90+ (Halle Schoen, Audrey McConihe, Lydia Latimer, Keanna Avery, Sarah Green, Abby Miller), while nine Vikings earned a spot on the Cleveland State Dean's List3.25+ (Hannah Greene, Emily DeGeorge, Lindsey Tout, Chelsea Penfield, Peyton Bloomer, Caroline Kucia, Madalynn Butler, Ainslie McLaughlin, Sam Snow).

HEAD COACH CHUCK VOSS
Chuck Voss is in his 21st season at the helm of the Vikings, and owns a 368-239 (.606) overall record at Cleveland State. Under Voss the Vikings have recorded 16 winning seasons, including a streak of 10 straight from 2009 to 2018. Cleveland State has eclipsed the 20-win mark eight times since Voss took over the program, and has captured Horizon League Tournament titles five times (2007, 2012, 2015, 2016 & 2017) under his guidance. During the 2016 season Voss became the all-time winningest coach in program history, and then later became the only active Horizon League coach to reach the 350-win mark at their current school.
