Efficient Offensive Attack Leads Vikings To 3-0 Sweep Over Milwaukee

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Behind an efficient offensive attack, the Cleveland State volleyball team picked up its first victory in Woodling Gymnasium Tuesday evening, as the Vikings posted a 3-0 sweep over Milwaukee. With the win, the Vikings now stand at 3-1 overall this season.

Match Stats
· Hannah Greene led the Vikings with 11 total kills, while Emily DeGeorge and London Portis both added eight.
· Abby Miller recorded 31 assists on Cleveland State's 39 kills.
· As a team, the Vikings recorded a .372 hitting clip, posting just four errors on 94 total swings.
· Lindsey Tout led the Viking back row with 14 digs on the match, while Emily DeGeorge tallied nine.
· Chelsea Penfield finished with a team-high five total blocks against the Panthers.
· The Vikings recorded nine total service aces on the match, including three from Halle Schoen and Abby Miller.
· The Cleveland State defense held Milwaukee to a .130 clip offensively.

· Tuesday's win marked the first victory for the Vikings inside Woodling Gymnasium this season.
· Hannah Greene recorded a career-high with a .688 clip (11-0-16) on Tuesday.
· Halle Schoen's three service aces against the Panthers marked a career-high for the senior.

The Match
After trading points over the first few plays of the opening set, the Vikings went on a 4-0 run to gain an early 7-3 lead on a Peyton Bloomer kill, forcing a Milwaukee timeout. The Vikings then held a sizeable advantage over the next few plays, and even extended their lead to 17-9 following back-to-back kills from London Portis. Cleveland State then extended its lead to double-digits at the 22-12 mark on a Chelsea Penfield kill, before claiming the 25-15 first set victory.

The second set was much of the same then, as the Vikings were able to gain an advantage midway through the frame at the 11-7 mark following another Penfield kill. The Vikings then closed the set on a 14-4 run, clinching the 25-11 second set victory on a pair of Panther errors.

The Vikings then had to come from behind during the third frame, as Milwaukee was able to jump out to an 11-8 lead before the Vikings responded with six straight points to gain a 14-11 edge on another Panther error. The two teams then traded points over the next few plays, until the Panthers were able to knot the score at 18-18 late in the frame, but seven straight points from the Vikings – including a trio of Halle Schoen service aces – clinched the set and match victory of for the Vikings.
