Skeens Named #HLVB Offensive Player Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second straight week the Cleveland State volleyball team has been honored by the Horizon League, as junior Sara Skeens has been named the #HLVB Offensive Player of the Week. This marks the second weekly accolade for Skeens during her career, while it is the third time that the Vikings have been honored this season.

Last time out, Skeens and the Vikings posted a pair of 3-1 victories over Northern Kentucky and Wright State, improving to 10-6 overall this season and 4-0 in Horizon League play. After two weeks of #HLVB action, the Vikings are the only team to remain undefeated and sit at the top of the league standings.

In the two matches last weekend, Skeens combined for 30 total kills, averaging 3.75 kills per set. Against NKU, she tallied a season-high 18 kills, and followed that up with 12 kills against Wright State. Skeens was part of a Viking offense that averaged 13.38 kills per set in the two matches and posted a .241 hitting percentage.

For the season, Skeens is averaging a team-best 3.09 kills per set – a mark that puts her fourth among league players.

For her career, Skeens now has 752 total kills, leading all current Vikings.

Skeens and the Vikings will continue #HLVB play this weekend, hosting IUPUI on Friday, October 5 and traveling to Milwaukee on Sunday, October 7.
