INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Cleveland State sophomore setter Gina Kilner has been named the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week, after leading the Vikings to a 2-1 week in which they clinched the Horizon League Regular Season Title. This is the first weekly accolade for Kilner and the fourth for the Vikings this season.
Last week, Kilner helped the Vikings pick up a pair of victories against Northern Kentucky and UIC, en route to clinching the program's third regular season championship. Cleveland State finished the regular season with a 13-3 record in league matches – a win total that ties the program record.
For the week, Kilner tallied 124 assists, averaging 11.27 assists per set. Against Northern Kentucky, Kilner recorded 40 assists, helping Cleveland State to a season-best .385 hitting percentage. She followed this up with 42 helpers against both UIC and Valparaiso, becoming just the eighth Viking in program history to surpass 1,800 career assists.
Kilner also combined for 11 kills, 23 digs, and seven blocks in the three matches last week.
So far this season Kilner has recorded 1,291 assists and has helped Cleveland State to a league-best .257 hitting percentage. Under Kilner's leadership the Vikings are averaging 13.81 kills per set this season – a mark that ranks second among Horizon League schools.
Entering the Horizon League Tournament Kilner ranks fifth in the CSU single-season record book with 1,291 assists, while she ranks eighth in the CSU career record book with 1,825 helpers.
Kilner and the top-seeded Vikings will begin play at the Horizon League Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 21) with a semifinal contest. Cleveland State will be the host of the 2015 Horizon League Championship – with action taking place Friday, November 20 through Sunday, November 22 in Woodling Gymnasium.
