Vikings Fall At Valparaiso, 3-0

VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Cleveland State volleyball team began their final regular season roadswing Friday evening, falling at Valparaiso, 3-0. The Vikings now stand at 13-11 overall and 3-8 in Horizon League action.

Set scores against the Crusaders were 28-26, 25-21, 25-17.

Maggie Hannon led the Vikings with a team-high 11 kills, while Grace Kauth tallied eight and Kelly Kiger notched seven. Annie Djukic and Dayna Roberts split setting duties throughout the match, Djukic posting 18 and Roberts recording 17. Nikki Holmes led the defense with 17 digs, while Kauth tallied 13.

CSU was able to keep the first set close – even owning the advantage for the majority of the frame. After earning a five-point lead at the 21-16 mark with a Maggie Hannon kill, Valparaiso was able to climb their way back into the match, posting four of the next five points to come within two points at 22-20. With the momentum on their side, the Crusaders closed out the frame with three straight points, fighting off three set-points.

Valparaiso then controlled play throughout the second and third frames, cruising to a three-set victory over the Vikings.
