Vikings Fall To YSU In Five Sets

CLEVELAND, Ohio – For the third time in the last five matches the Cleveland State volleyball team dropped a five-set heartbreaker, falling to Youngstown State 3-2 Friday evening. With the loss the Vikings now stand at 12-9 overall this season and 2-6 in league action, while the Penguins are 13-10 (5-3).

Set scores against Youngstown State were 25-20, 25-18, 26-28, 23-25, 15-10.

The Vikings were paced offensively by the duo of Grace Kauth and Maggie Hannon – Kauth with a match-high 14 kills and Hannon with 13 kills on a .545 hitting percentage (13-1-22). Kerry Winchester and Christina Toth each added eight kills, while Katie Nesbitt tallied seven.

CSU had four players record double-digit digs, led by Kauth who notched a career-high 17 for her sixth double-double of the season. Nikki Holmes posted 16 digs, while Logan Holthaus added 11 and Annie Djukic posted 10. Djukic and Dayna Roberts split setting duties against the Penguins, Djukic with 28 assists and Roberts with 21.

The Vikings will continue their three-match homestand next weekend, hosting Oakland and Wright State. CSU will open the weekend against Oakland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1.
