Vikings Fall At Green Bay, 3-1

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Cleveland State volleyball team dropped a four-set match at Green Bay Saturday, despite a trio of Vikings with double-digit kills and a pair of career-highs. The Vikings are now 12-8 overall and 2-5 in Horizon League action, while Green Bay now stands at 9-11 (4-3).

Set scores against Green Bay were 27-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-22.

Grace Kauth led the Viking offense with a career-high tying 17 kills, while she also posted 13 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Christina Toth bettered her career-high posting 13 kills on a .706 hitting percentage (13-1-17), while Maggie Hannon added 12.

Dayna Roberts and Annie Djukic split setting duties, Roberts posting 30 assists and DJukic notching 25. Nikki Holmes led the CSU defense with 20 digs, while Aaliyah Slappy and Hannon each tallied three blocks.

After dropping the first two sets, the Vikings were able to battle for a 26-24 extra-point victory during the third frame. During this set, the Vikings had to battle for every point they earned as CSU didn't hold a lead throughout the entire set until the end when they posted four straight points to claim the two-point victory. The Vikings started their comeback at the 22-16 mark, posting three straight points on a trio of Green Bay errors to come within three points (22-19). CSU followed this up with another 3-0 run, including a Hannon kill, to bring the score within one point (24-23), before eventually closing out the frame.

The Phoenix answered with a 25-22 victory during the fourth set, as both teams traded points throughout the frame, staying within two points of each other until the very end. With the fourth-set victory, Green Bay earned the 3-1 win.

Cleveland State will return home next weekend, hosting Youngstown State in its lone contest of the week. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25.
