Cleveland State Track & Field Has Strong Showing At Marshall Women’s Classic

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The Cleveland State track & field team returned to action Saturday, participating in the Marshall Women's Classic to restart the indoor campaign.

Cleveland State was one of four teams competing on Saturday, joining Wright State, Morehead State and Marshall. Saturday's meet marked the first event for the Vikings since the beginning of December when they opened the indoor season at the YSU Ice Breaker.

"Today was a day to get back on the track and evaluate where we are following winter break," head coach Jason Hudson said. "Dynesty ran really well in both of her races, while the 3k crew put in a solid effort led by Kiannah. We now know what work we need to do as the season continues over the next few weeks."

Dynesty Ervin recorded Cleveland State's top finishes on the day, as she placed second in both the 200 (26.12) and 400 (1:01.44) meter dash. Colette Conway also ran in the sprint events for the Vikings on Saturday, finishing sixth in the 400 (1:10.58) and 11th in the 200 (31.01).

Savannah Shaver was the lone Viking to compete in the 800 meter run, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:41.02.

Cleveland State also had a trio of runners in the 3000 meter event, paced by Kiannah Sarver who finished sixth with a time of 11:09.83. Ariana Coats placed seventh in the event (11:12.55), while Hannah Korte finished eighth (11:26.49).

Saturday's meet was the first of six remaining indoor events for the Vikings this season, as they will return to action at the Mastodon Invitational next Saturday (January 22).
