Dorothal Finishes Third In Pentathlon On Day One OF #HLTF Indoor Championship

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Cleveland State track and field team opened the 2020 Horizon League Indoor Championships Saturday, bringing home two podium finishes on the first day of action.

Cleveland State had one representative in the Pentathlon Saturday, as Julianne Dorothal finished third overall with 3,238 total points. Dorothal's 3,238 points marked a career-high, while it also marked the second highest point total in program history.

Dorothal finished second and third in the Shot Put and Long Jump events respectively, while she notched fourth place finishes in the 60 Meter Hurdles and High Jump. With her third place finish, Dorothal was named All-Horizon League Honorable Mention.

Kaelin Stahl was the only Viking to compete in field events on the first day, as she tied for eighth overall in the Pole Vault with a program record mark of 3.45. Stahl's eighth place finish earned her a spot on the #HLTF podium, making her one of three freshmen to earn a spot in the top eight in the event. 

Hannah Korte was the final Viking to compete in a championship event on Saturday, as she placed 11th overall with a time of 18:12.04 in the 5,000 Meter Run. Korte's time marked a personal-best, while it was also the third fastest time in program history.

Cleveland State had two runners advance to championship races on Saturday, as Anna Brandt earned a spot in the 800 Meter Run final and Monica Johnson advanced in the 60 Meter Hurdle finals – which will both take place tomorrow. Brandt posted the fastest qualifying time in the 800 with a mark of 2:13.75, while Johnson crossed the finish line in a time of 8.80 in the 60 hurdles. Both times marked personal-bests and program records.

Action at the 2020 Horizon League Indoor Championships will wrap up tomorrow (Sunday, March 1), with field events beginning at 9:15 a.m. and running events starting at 1:00 p.m.
