Sprint Events Lead The Way For Vikings At Akron Invite

AKRON, Ohio – For the second straight meet the Cleveland State track and field team recorded multiple program records, as the Vikings had a strong showing at the Akron Invite this weekend.

Sprints
Cleveland State notched a program record in all four sprint events that the Vikings competed in, as Monica Johnson, Hannah Gaskins and Tylar Mixon all recorded CSU records on the day. Mixon tallied two records for the Vikings, posting a seventh place finish in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 25.60 and an 11th place finish in the 60 Meter Dash with a time of 7.83 (tied CSU Record).

Johnson recorded her program record in the 60 Meter Hurdles, posting a time of 9.06 in the prelims that bettered her previous record by one-hundredth of a second.

In the 400 Meter Dash, Gaskins placed 14th overall, crossing the finish line in a time of 59.74, while Mijah Collier finished 18th in a time of 1:00.67. Both of these times bettered the CSU record in the event, while Gaskins is the first Viking to break one-minute.

Mid-Distance
Cleveland State's top finish in the mid-distance events came in the 800 Meter Run, as Deja Emmanus placed 14th with a career-best time of 2:22.94. Adelle Tannous (2:26.96) and Korrin Spurlock (2:33.42) also recorded career-best times in the 800 Meter Run.

Distance
Cleveland State's best finish on the track came in the gold division of the 3000 Meter Run, as Anna Brandt placed fourth overall with a time of 10:13.22. Brandt's time marked a program record in the event, shattering the previous record by nearly 10 seconds.

Lily Michael recorded a top-15 finish in the blue division of the 3000 Meter Run (11:18.92), while Jessica Finley was Cleveland State's top finisher in the 5000 Meter Run (19:13.85).

Pentathlon
The Vikings competed in the pentathlon for the first time this season at the Akron Invite, with Julianne Dorothal placing third with 3007 points. Dorothal earned a first place finish in the shot put event, posting a career-high and CSU record with a mark of 11.18. Dorothal also recorded career-high marks in the 60 Hurdles(9.76) and 800 Meter Run (2:43.61).

Field
Julianne Dorothal was the lone Viking to compete in the field events, as she placed ninth with a mark of 1.50 in the High Jump.
