ROCHESTER, Mich. – Following one of Cleveland State's top individual performances at the 2018 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships last weekend, Hannah Gaskins was named the #HLTF Co-Freshman Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year.
Gaskins placed second overall in the Heptathlon, finishing with a school record 4285 points – more than 200 points ahead of the third place finisher. Out of the seven events, Gaskins was Cleveland State's top finisher in six, including four top-two overall finishes.
Those top-two finishes came in the High Jump (1.56), 200 Meter Dash (25.99), Javelin (29.25), and 800 Meter Run (2:34.92) – with three of the four results marking season-best times/marks for Gaskins.
Gaskins also had standout times in the 100 Meter Hurdles and 200 Meter Dash heptathlon events – as she recorded a school record time of 15.76 in the 100mH and the second-fastest time of 25.99 in the 200.
Along with her second place finish in the Heptathlon, Gaskins also recorded a podium finish in the High Jump, placing eighth with a mark of 1.60. This tied her season-best mark in the event, while it also made her the only Viking to reach 1.60 during multiple meets.
Gaskins also competed in the 100 Hurdles at last weekend's #HLTF Championship, placing 12th in the prelims with a time of 16.31.
Sharing Horizon League Co-Freshman Field Athlete of the Year honors with Gaskins was Milwaukee's Kyra Arendt.
