Jennifer Myers To Play Tennis At Cleveland State Next Fall

CLEVELAND - Jennifer Myers, a two-time state tournament qualifer in doubles play at Chillicothe, Ohio, has signed a national letter of intent to continue her tennis career at Cleveland State beginning the in fall of 2004, Cleveland State head coach Brian Etzkin announced today.

"I expect Jennifer to come in and play near the top of the lineup in both singles and doubles," Etzkin said. "She is farther along with her doubles skills than most junior players, which will help her adapt to the college game quickly. We are very excited that she has chosen to become a Viking."

Myers was named first-team all-state as a senior by the Greater Columbus Tennis Association after advancing to the semifinals in the doubles bracket in the Division I state tournament last fall. As a junior in 2002, Myers also qualified for the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket. She was also named first-team all-conference as a senior after posting a 27-7 combined singles and doubles mark.

Myers joins Lindsay Sellers of Lexington as the two signees for the women's tennis team for next season. The Cleveland State women's tennis team has posted a 9-15 mark in 2003-04, the best record since 1983-84. The Vikings also finished tied for fifth in the Horizon League with a 3-4 league record, the best conference finish in school history.
