CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State women's tennis team dropped its first match of the season, a 6-1 loss to Buffalo Sunday afternoon at Malaga Tennis Center. Christine Vogelgesang tallied the lone point for the Vikings with a straight set victory at #6 singles.

The Vikings (2-1) got off to a rough start in doubles play, dropping the three matches by scores of 8-1, 8-3, and 8-3.

"We started off slow," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We're working on our doubles play - on playing as a team of two players and not as two individuals playing together."

Number one singles player Sarah Galon lost her first match of the season, a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 loss to the #1 player from Buffalo. The top five singles matches all ended in losses for Cleveland State, but Vogelgesang gave the Vikings a point with a 6-4, 5-1 win at #6.

"I was pleased with Christina," Etzkin said. "We are a team that is making progress. We've gotten stronger and more competitive. We knew Buffalo was a good team, and we aspire to beat a team at that level. I believe that with enough hard work, we can do that by the end of the season."

The women's team will return to action this weekend at the University of Pennsylvania Invitational, which is scheduled to be played Sept. 24-26 in Philadelphia, PA.
