AKRON, Ohio - Jenn Myers won the final match of the day, edging her Akron opponent in two sets to lead the Viking women's tennis team to a 4-3 victory over the Akron Zips on Friday afternoon in Akron. The Vikings are 2-0 in the young season.

Cleveland State used strong play from the top of their lineup to run past the Zips, including straight set victories from their top three singles players - Sarah Galon, Myers, and Morgan Ungerott. Despite dropping the the three lowest seeded singles matches, Cleveland State won the doubles point with strong performances from the top three as well.

"This is our biggest non conference win since I've been here," said head coach Brian Etzkin. "I'll take a conference victory over any non-conference win, but as far as non-conference matches go, this was huge. It's a tremendous victory and says a lot about how far this program has come in just a few short years."

With the match tied at three and all other players finished with play, it came down to the #2 singles match of Myers against Mindy Price of the Zips. Myers rebounded from a tough start to take the first set tiebreak convincingly (7-1), and came back to win the second set, 6-4, in front of all her teammates to clinch the victory for Cleveland State.

"My teammates believed in me," said Myers. "They pumped me up and made me believe I could win. I was a bit nervous, but we're all excited to have won. It's an awesome feeling to win a match for your team."

The Vikings will take their 2-0 record up against Buffalo on Sunday, September 19th at home, with the match slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
