CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The women's tennis team ended its regular season on a high note, defeating Wright State by a score of 6-1 Saturday afternoon at CSU's Malaga Tennis Center.
The Vikings turned their doubles game around, picking up wins at all three positions to kick off the match. Jackie Tabb and Melissa Holzinger returned to the second spot to pick up an 8-2 victory, while Sanda Bjelan and Myra Pepino rolled to an 8-0 win at No. 3.
Bjelan and Pepino did not drop a point in singles play either. The women held up the bottom half of the lineup with two 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 5 and 6. Bjelan finished the regular season at 7-1 in singles play against conference opponents.
"Our goal today was to compete as hard as we could and not give away any free points," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We did a good job of working points up and down the lineup. As a team we are happy with finishing the regular season in the top half of the conference, but we are looking forward to achieving our goal of finishing in the top three next week in the tournament."
The Cleveland State women finish the regular season with a 15-10 overall record and a 5-3 record in the Horizon League.
The Vikings will likely enter the conference tournament on April 24 as the fourth seed. Tournament play will take place in Indianapolis, Ind. Last year CSU placed fourth in the Horizon League tournament, dropping their last match of the year to Detroit, 4-3.
