CLEVELAND - On Senior Day and in front of one of the largest crowds in Cleveland State tennis history, the Viking women's tennis team battled Youngstown State but came out on the losing end of a 6-1 decision on Saturday at the Malaga Tennis Center. The loss drops the Vikings to 9-15 on the season and 3-4 in the Horizon League.

"It was a big weekend, and you always expect there to be magic when you have that type of atmosphere, but we just weren't able to muster the points," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We came out flat in doubles and, though we came out with more energy in the singles matches, we just couldn't get the job done."

Sarah Galon picked up the lone point for the Vikings, breezing through the first set, struggling in the second and coming back to win in three, 6-0, 6-7(5), 6-3, over Whitney Thomas, at the top singles spot. Galon picked up her 17th win of the season in singles play and raised her mark in league matches to 6-1.

During Senior Day festivities before the match, Paulina Reyes and Amanda Cerny were honored for their accomplishments during their careers at Cleveland State. Cerny then went out and nearly closed out her home career with a win, falling to Andrea Dixon in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

The Vikings will close out the season at the Horizon League Championships, which will be held on April 24 and 25 in Indianapolis, Ind. The seed and first-round opponent for the Vikings has yet to be determined.
