MIDDLETON, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's and women's tennis teams both picked up a Horizon League win on Sunday, defeating Wright State in Middleton, Ohio. The men edged out a 4-3 victory, while the women claimed a 5-2 win over the Raiders.

The men's team evened its league record at 1-1 with the win over Wright State and moved to 6-8 on the year. Despite losing two of the three doubles matches, the Vikings rallied in singles play. Eric Winn led the way, taking a three-set match from Kevin Teufel, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, at No. 1 singles.

The bottom half of the men's lineup came through for the men, as the 4-6 slots in the lineup each posted victories. Dan Singer, playing at No. 4 singles, defeated Presti Pierangelo, 7-6(4), 6-2, while Paul Haley scored a 6-3, 6-0, win over Brian Savino at No. 5. Jordan Reynolds clinched the win with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 win over Dan Sundersigh at No. 6 singles.

"After we lost the doubles point, we decided that we weren't going to let the match be over," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "The guys rallied well on their courts, and after sitting around for four hours waiting for the match to begin, they still came out fresh and took care of business."

The women moved to 5-9, 2-2 in the league with their win over Wright State. In the women's match, the Vikings swept the three doubles matches on their way to an easy 5-2 win. Sarah Galon and Morgan Ungerott took No. 1 doubles over Maggie Jacobs and Audra Beckett, 9-7, while Marcella Capozziello and Paulina Reyes scored an 8-4 win over Megan Laux and Laura Culbertson at No. 2. Rebekah Bicksler and Amanda Cerny finished the sweep with an 8-3 win at No. 3 over Jennifer Beard and Jessica Morris.

In singles play, Galon scored a win at No. 1, defeating Jacobs 6-1, 6-1, before the bottom half of the lineup clinched the victory. At No. 4 singles, Bicksler took a 6-0, 7-5 win over Jennifer Bagby, with Capozziello taking a three-set victory over Laux, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. Cerny finished off the 5-2 win with a 6-3, 6-3, win over WSU's Beard at No. 6 singles.

"It feels really good to get this win over a league school and another school from Ohio," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We'd lost two hard ones this weekend, and we had talked about putting this one behind us. We came out fresh today and really played well."

The Vikings will next head to Orlando, Fla., for three matches over spring break. Cleveland State will open with Baker on Sunday, March 14.
