Vicario Named #HLTennis Player of the Year; Heren, Vevere & Yauch Also Honored

INDIANPOLIS, Ind. – After capturing a share of the Horizon League Regular Season title and clinching the No. 1 seed for the upcoming #HLTennis Tournament last weekend, the Cleveland State women's tennis team was honored with multiple postseason accolades from the league, with Oihane Vicario, Sima Heren, Tereze Vevere, and Bethany Yauch all earning postseason awards. 

Vicario was named the 2024 Horizon League Player of the Year and First Team honoree, Vevere earned a spot on the All-League First Team, while Heren and Yauch were both named to the All-League Second Team.

Vicario picks up Player of the Year honors for the second straight season after posting a perfect 6-0 record against Horizon League opponents at No. 1 singles. For her career, Vicario now owns a 16-1 record against league opponents during regular season matches.  

During the year, Vicario picked up Horizon League Singles Player of the Week accolades five times – a league-best – and is currently on an eight-match win streak. Overall this season, Vicario owns a team-best 24-9 record, with the 24 wins tied for sixth in the CSU Single-Season Record Book. 

For her career, Vicario eclipsed the 60-win mark earlier this year, and is one of three active Vikings to reach the milestone. 

Vicario moved into the doubles lineup for Horizon League play, teaming with Sima Heren to own a 6-1 record on the year. Against league opponents, the duo owns a 4-1 mark at the top of the lineup, while they have been named the #HLTennis Doubles Team of the Week three times. 

Vicario is the fourth Horizon League player to earn back-to-back Player of the Year honors, while she also joins an exclusive list of three-time First Team honorees.

TEREZE VEVERE | JR | FIRST TEAM
Vevere earns a spot on the All-League First Team after posting a 20-14 overall record on the year, including a 4-2 mark against league opponents at No. 3 singles.  

As one of three Vikings to record 20+ wins on the season, Vevere enters #HLTennis Tournament play with 63 career wins – one of three Vikings to reach the 60-win milestone. 

In doubles, Vevere has teamed with Ella Franz for the entire season, owning a program-record 25-4 mark on the year. The duo is 15-2 at No. 3 doubles this spring, including a 3-1 mark against league opponents, earning #HLTennis Doubles Team of the Week honors three times. 

For their careers, Vevere and Franz rank second on the CSU Doubles Wins List with 41 wins as one of just two Viking duos all-time to reach the 40-win milestone.

SIMA HEREN | JR | SECOND TEAM
Heren has been named to the All-League Second Team after posting a 22-11 overall record on the year, including a 14-7 record at No. 2 and No. 3 singles this spring. Heren finished regular season play with a 5-1 record against Horizon League opponents, and enters #HLTennis Tournament play on a five-match win streak.  

Earlier this season, Heren recorded the 50th singles win of her career, becoming one of four active Vikings to reach the milestone, and enters tournament play with 57 career wins. 

In doubles, Heren has combined for a 22-12 record on the year, most recently teaming with Oihane Vicario to record a 4-1 record against Horizon League opponents at No. 1 doubles. Heren has earned #HLTennis Doubles Team of the Week honors four times, including three with Vicario.

BETHANY YAUCH | SR | SECOND TEAM
Yauch picks up Second Team honors after finishing regular season play with a 5-1 record against Horizon League opponents. Playing throughout the middle of the lineup, Yauch has posted 14 wins on the year.  

Earlier this season, Yauch eclipsed the 60-win mark for her career, and enters #HLTennis Tournament play tied for 10th on the CSU Singles Wins List with 69 career victories. 

In doubles, Yauch has combined for a 17-13 record on the year, including a 16-11 mark with Sima Heren, with the 16 wins tied for 10th in the CSU Single-Season Record Book. For their careers, Yauch and Heren rank sixth on the CSU Doubles Wins List with a 29-19 record.
