Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Travels To Milwaukee & Chicago State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will continue Horizon League play on the road this weekend, traveling to Milwaukee on Saturday, April 6 and Chicago State on Sunday, April 7.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings posted a 5-2 victory over Youngstown State in the #HLTennis opener, marking their third straight win and improving to 9-8 on the year.

Vicario Named #HLTennis Singles Player of the Week
After picking up a 7-5, 6-3 straight-set win at the top of the lineup against the Penguins Oihane Vicario was named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week. This marked the league-leading fourth time that Vicario has picked up Singles Player of the Week honors, while it is the sixth time that a Viking has been recognized.

…Vicario Closing In On 20-Win Season
Entering this weekend's matches, Oihane Vicario is just one win shy of becoming the first Viking to reach 20 wins on the season, currently standing at 19-9 overall this year. With one more win, Vicario would record her third straight 20-win campaign, as she has eclipsed the 20-win mark in both of her first two seasons at Cleveland State.

Vevere Records 60th Career Singles Win
With a 7-6(5), 4-6, 1-0(2) victory at No 3 singles against Youngstown State last time out, Tereze Vevere recorded the 60th singles win of her career. Vevere, who is one of two active Vikings with 60+ wins (Bethany Yauch), enters the weekend on a three-match win streak and has a 17-12 overall record this year.

Heren & Vicario Named #HLTennis Doubles Team of the Week
For the sixth time this season it was a Cleveland State sweep of the Horizon League weekly awards, as Sima Heren and Oihane Vicario were named the Doubles Team of the Week. The duo posted a 7-6(2) win at the No. 1 spot against YSU, clinching the early doubles point for the Vikings. As a tandem, Heren and Vicario are now 3-0 on the season.

Franz & Vevere Set CSU Single-Season Doubles Wins Record
With a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles last time out, Tereze Vevere and Ella Franz recorded their 23rd win of the season, setting a Cleveland State Single-Season Record for doubles wins. Vevere and Franz, who sit at 23-3 this season and 13-1 this spring, are one of just two CSU tandems all-time to reach 20-wins in a single season.
