Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Set To Open #HLTennis Play By Hosting Youngstown State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will open Horizon League play this weekend, hosting Youngstown State at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30 at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.  

Last Time Out…
The Vikings picked up back-to-back 7-0 sweeps over Duquesne and Niagara, improving to 8-8 on the year.  

#HLTennis Preseason Poll
Earlier this season the Vikings were selected as the Horizon League preseason favorite, earning 46 points and four first place votes. This marked the first time that Cleveland State was selected at the top of the preseason poll, while the Vikings finished right above Youngstown State who collected 45 points and three first place votes.  

Vicario Named #HLTennis Singles Player of the Week
For the third time this season Oihane Vicario was honored by the Horizon League, as she picked up Singles Player of the Week accolades after going 2-0 at the top of the singles lineup. Vicario earned a pair of straight-set wins against Duquesne and Niagara, improving to a team-best 18-9 on the year.  

Vicario & Heren Earn #HLTennis Doubles Team of the Week Honors
In addition to Singles Player of the Week honors, Oihane Vicario also picked up Doubles Team of the Week accolades from the Horizon League with Sima Heren. The duo picked up a pair of wins at the No. 1 spot, helping the Vikings earn the doubles point in both matches against Duquesne and Niagara.  

Duo Closing In On 60 Career Wins
Entering Saturday's match against YSU the Cleveland State duo of Tereze Vevere and Oihane Vicario are closing in on 60 career singles wins, with Vevere sitting at 59 victories and Vicario owning 58. So far, only 13 Vikings have reached the 60-win milestone in program history, including senior Bethany Yauch who currently has 64 wins on her career.  

Vevere & Franz On The Doubles Court
After picking up a pair of 6-0 victories against Duquesne and Niagara last weekend, Cleveland State's No. 3 doubles team of Tereze Vevere and Ella Franz tied the program record for doubles wins in a season with 22. For the year, the duo owns a 22-3 record in doubles, while they are also tied for third on the CSU Doubles Wins List with 38 career wins as a tandem.
