Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Picks Up #HLTennis Singles Player and Doubles Team of the Week Honors

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second time this season the Cleveland State women's tennis team has swept the Horizon League weekly awards, with Sima Heren earning Singles Player of the Week honors and Tereze Vevere and Ella Franz being named the Doubles Team of the Week. This marks the first weekly honor for all three.

Last time out, this trio helped the Vikings to a 1-1 weekend which included matches at West Virginia and against Radford.

Heren went 2-0 to lead the Cleveland State singles effort, picking up a pair of straight-set wins at No. 2 singles on the weekend. To start, Heren earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory at West Virginia, before following that up with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Radford.

"This is a well deserved honor for Sima, as she has put a lot of time and effort into her game over the last few weeks and it is showing on the court," head coach Frank Polito said. "Sima is part of a singles lineup that is solid from top to bottom, and having her energy on the court is something that the entire team can feed of off."

With the two wins, Heren now has a team-best 14-5 record on the year, including a 6-1 mark this spring. Entering this weekend's match, Heren is just one win shy of reaching the 50-win milestone for her career.

In doubles, Vevere and Franz went 1-0 at the No. 3 spot, earning a 6-3 win against West Virginia before playing an unfinished match against Radford.

"I'm so happy for Tereze and Ella to be honored, as they have been one of our best doubles teams over the last two years that they have been playing together. They are always connected on the court, and have a chance of winning any match they play because of their mindset and attitude," Polito said.

As a tandem, Vevere and Franz now have a 14-3 record on the season, while the win against West Virginia gave them 30 total wins as a duo, becoming one of just five Cleveland State doubles teams all-time to reach the milestone.
