Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Earns 6-1 Victory Over Valparaiso

VALPARAISO, Ind. - The Cleveland State women's tennis team opened its 2024 spring slate Saturday, picking up a 6-1 victory over Valparaiso.

"This was a great start to the season for us, we played well up and down the lineup in doubles and singles today," head coach Frank Polito said. "After playing a good doubles point, Sima and Tereze set the tone for us in singles, while Ella picked up the first clinching point of her career after playing a great match. Oihane and Filippa also did a great job of fighting until the end in their matches to earn a pair of come-from-behind wins. I'm excited to watch this team grow throughout the season!"

Cleveland State was able to pick up the early doubles point, earning wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. At No. 2 doubles, Oihane Vicario and Filippa Frogner earned a 6-2 win, while Tereze Vevere and Ella Franz posted a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Vikings were then able to pick up wins in five of the six singles matches, including a pair of three-set wins from Vicario at the top of the lineup and Frogner at the No. 6 spot.

Vicario earned a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win, while Frogner posted a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0(8) win.
